We just found out about the The World Bank report “Blueprints for Private Investment in Ecosystem Restoration – Lessons from Case Studies”.
Great piece of work and quite spot on. Where we agree :
A wealth of financial models for hashtag#nature hashtag#restoration exist, that can (or must) be combined;
Emergence of hashtag#biodiversity hashtag#credits, as part of the Kunming-Montreal agreement;
The need to hashtag#catalytic funding to take activities to the bankable stage.
Where we disagree :
The report indicates that restoration is “technically complex” and points this as a main challenge; we would disagree to this: technical solutions are well documented and used; dissemination of knowledge might be lacking and improved;
Carbon is seen as a great financial stream for restoration; we invite to caution here as we are increasingly seeing restoration projects being “denatured” to fit within a carbon framework. What is needed is a pure biodiversity-based financial instrument, that can finance restoration for itself, at scale.
