A new giant leap for biodiversity conservation : the European Commission releases its Nature Credits roadmap.

European Commission releases its Nature Credits roadmap

A particularly important milestone in the rollout of Nature Credits or Biodiversity Certificates was reached last July when the European Commission presented its roadmap for the coming years! The Restore Biodiversity, Together team is proud to have contributed to the discussions that led to its creation and to be paving the way with the first projects rolled out in France and Peru.

This new measure aims to support investments in the protection, restoration, and sustainable use of ecosystems. The document details the next steps the EU will take to help develop a Biodiversity Credits market and commits to taking action by 2027.

Why is this important ?

– Because nature is a strategic asset for our economy.

– Because farmers, foresters, fishermen, land managers, and local communities should be fairly rewarded for their positive actions in favor of nature.

– Because, when well designed, nature credits can unlock private funding in addition to public funding, all in a beneficial and egalitarian way.

This is the beginning of a innovative process based on integrity, transparency, and scientific rigor.
