Historic agreement announced at the IUCN World Conservation Congress Peru has finalized a groundbreaking partnership between the Servicio Nacional de Areas Naturales Protegidas (SERNANP), the Peruvian Ministry of the Environment, Restore Biodiversity, Together, and FRONTERRA, opening a new era for financing biodiversity conservation and restoration ! This agreement for Sierra del Divisor National Park is the first of its kind in the world and paves the way for future biodiversity certificates under the United Nations Global Biodiversity Framework. The signing ceremony, held at the Brazil Pavilion, brought together Juan Carlos Castro Vargas, Peru’s Minister of the Environment, Jose Carlos Nieto, Executive President of SERNANP, and Antoine Cadi, President of Restore Biodiversity, Together. Supported by the French government and the European Commission, this initiative sets a global precedent for nature-based financing instruments !
