Financing and Operating Biodiversity Restoration: What Role for SNCRR?

Financing and Operating Biodiversity Restoration: What Role for SNCRR – Natural Sites for Compensation, Restoration, and Renaturation?

At the invitation of Minister of ecological transition, biodiversity, forest, sea and fishing Agnès Pannier-Runacher, numerous biodiversity stakeholders gathered this afternoon to share their vision, commitment, and expectations.

RESTORE was invited to present its work. Antoine Cadi, president of RESTORE, emphasized the importance of a tool that not only enables the restoration of territories without waiting for further degradation but also provides businesses with better visibility regarding costs, timelines, and ecological priorities.

RESTORE develops a portfolio of pilot projects focused on early action to support future compliance and non-compliance markets, specifically:

  • Identifies and selects the best available projects;
  • Establishes long-term financing agreements with project developers in exchange for all resulting environmental benefits;
  • Ensures that funded actions meet the highest extra-financial and technical standards and can be converted into Certified Biodiversity Units;
  • Enhances the value of financed actions as assets, allowing subscribers to transparently record their participation in their balance sheets and secure long-term recognition of their investment;
  • Enables, as soon as regulations allow, the transfer of portfolio assets to shareholders to meet their compliance or coverage needs.

RESTORE is attentive to SNCRR operators, supporting them in securing the overall financial viability of their projects through biodiversity certificates. We offer economic stakeholders wishing to support the development of SNCRR the opportunity to activate these biodiversity units.

“Innovation is absolutely crucial in providing solutions to combat the impact of climate change and restore biodiversity. Investing in nature-based solutions is never a mistake. With SNCRR, France is becoming the first country to implement a concrete solution for territorial restoration” said Agnès Pannier-Runacher, with three key announcements :

  • A working group to address investor expectations in terms of guarantees and visibility;
  • A working group to promote the mobilization of territories and identify priority restoration sites;
  • The launch of the Pogéis tool, providing access to key environmental data on more than 3,000 plots.
