UNOC : RESTORE – biodiversity, together and Blue Alliance Marine Protected Areas are combining their expertise and energy to propose the long-term deployment of new marine protected areas!

UNOC 2025

As the Third United Nations Ocean Conference draws to a close, the international community welcomes the global mobilization in support of the ocean. Commitments must continue, and to achieve their goals, they must rely on new tools and financing such as biodiversity credits.

In his speeches, President Emmanuel Macron praised the work of International Advisory Panel on Biodiversity Credits pilot projects in channeling investment and accelerating the transition to a nature-positive future. He specifically referenced their pilot projects working in marine ecosystems.

With this in mind, RESTORE – biodiversity, together and Blue Alliance Marine Protected Areas are pooling their expertise and energy to propose the long-term deployment of new marine protected areas based on dual financing from the social economy to provide solutions for local populations and reduce pressures on ecosystems, and to issue biodiversity credits to cover the costs associated with the protection and restoration of highly protected areas.

For example, in the Pemba Channel Conservation Area (PECCA) Zanzibar, Blue Alliance has launched Aquahub, a community-based aquaculture business. Targeting global markets, this project enhances livelihoods for approximately 4,000 local households while regenerating seagrass ecosystems, reducing pressure on wild stocks of sea cucumbers, and supporting PECCA’s management.
