What are the prospects for biodiversity credits ?
Ursula von der Leyen, as President of the hashtag#EuropeanCommission, confirmed on Friday 13 September 2024 the EC intention to launch biodiversity credits in the short term and to support pilot projects to concretely test these new methods of financing biodiversity restoration!
While at least 700 billion dollars would need to be mobilised by 2030 to consider stopping biodiversity erosion on a global scale and only around a hundred billion would be available, it is urgent to work on the emergence of new tools and the definition of ambitious, clear and consensual intervention frameworks.
